What's in a name?

What is my name? Well my name is Whitney Nichole Turner. My name isn’t anything special, you know like from my grandma’s grandma or anything like that. My last name obviously comes from my dad and the long line of Turner’s. Some may not know though that my dad being a Turner is by marriage not blood. When my dad was younger my nana and papa got together and my papa adopted him. That’s how we became Turner’s. My middle name is my mom’s first name. Everyone calls her Nicky instead of Nichole. My mom doesn’t like to be called Nichole but I have never figured out why since she named me after her; now for my first name. As far back as we have traced no one in my family was ever named Whitney. Therefore, I am not named after anyone in my family. My mom got the name from Whitney Houston. Yes I was named after the famous singer. Some think it’s awesome and other say I was named after a druggy singer who died because of an overdose. Others say that’s where I got my voice from. I just say that’s my name. It does make me laugh sometimes when people say you were named after a druggy because in all honesty there is probably a druggy out in the world right now with your exact name and they were born before you, so even though they aren’t popular you were still named after them,; literally. When looking up my name on line Turner means, “one who fashions cylindrical objects out of wood.” Nichole means, “victorious people,” Whitney means, “White Island.” Whitney comes from old English. I have asked around and people say my name fits me because of my extremely curly hair. Others say I look more like a Sarah or Miranda or Kelly. My mom since she found out she was pregnant with me she wanted to name me Whitney. I would not change my name if I had the chance but that’s probably because it’s what I have lived with my whole life. People have come up with many nicknames for me. Some are; whinnie, whitty, whitzo, whitners, whitzinie, whinnie the pooh, and lots of others that aren’t necessarily appropriate. Well there’s everything about my name. J
